FILM NIGHTS

The October film is 'Bread & Roses' - a film about poverty and community resistance. Directed by Ken Loach (Sweet Sixteen), the film offers the chance for local residents to reflect and discuss issues that may be relevant to their own lives. 'Made in Britain', the film for November, tells the story of a violent and racist youth called Trevor. Set against the backdrop of Thatcherite Britain, the film asks questions about the society that has produced Trevor and whether punishment is really the answer.

STREETWORK TRAINING 6 Weeks from Tuesday 1st November - 6th December 6-9pm 63 Niddrie Mains Terrace
This course will look at the fundamental principles of Streetwork, and how to engage with young people on their territory. The training gives participants the opportunity to learn more about detached and outreach working.

This one-day course is an essential tool for employers and employees to understand the most relevant and general health and safety legislative requirements. It is particularly helpful for those who require an initial understanding of their duties under the law. It will give an important insight into the necessities of this legislation, along with the unquestionable benefits to employers and employees.
INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS Tuesday 8th, 15th & 22nd November 2-4pm 63 Niddrie Mains Terrace
If you're new to computers then this is the course for you. It will give you a basic introduction to doing simple things ... switching it on, writing a letter, designing a poster or using the internet. Call us to book a place.
FINANCIAL ISSUES FOR LONE PARENTS Monday 14th November 11am-4pm 63 Niddrie Mains Terrace
Do you work with lone parents, in any capacity? The training is run by 'One Parent Families Scotland' and 'One Plus', and covers many of the financial and related issues facing single parents, and the opportunities that are on offer. The day will cover 2 topics - 'Dealing with Debt' and 'Money Management'. Contact us for more information or to book your place.

APPOINTED PERSONS FIRST AID

Thursday 17th November 9:30am - 4.30pm 63 Niddrie Mains Terrace

This is a 6 hour course to introduce the basic elements of first aid. It includes specific training in CPR, and more generally on how to sustain life and promote recovery. The training is carried out by the St. Andrew's Ambulance Association, with a certificate on completion.

DISABILITY AWARENESS TRAINING

Wednesday 23rd November 9:30am - 4pm 63 Niddrie Mains Terrace

This training is organised by the Thistle Foundation and is aimed at members of Management Committees and Voluntary Boards. It will cover Disability Equality training and duties under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

VISIT TO THE SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT

Monday 28th November 1:30 - 3:30pm 63 Niddrie Mains Terrace

Have you seen our new Parliament yet? This visit includes a tour of different parts of the building, including the Debating Chamber and Committee Rooms. Tours have to be booked in advance so call us to reserve your place. Transport will be provided.
